Underline Science will produce and host this year’s 11th International Conference on Computational Creativity (ICCC’20) from Monday, September 7th to Friday, September 11th, on Underline Science (underline.io), the world’s first live streaming and digital library platform for cutting-edge conference lectures, research and discussions. ICCC’20 partnered with Underline after it was determined the in-person meeting originally scheduled to take place in Coimbra, Portugal would not be possible due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ICCC conference series, organized by the Association for Computational Creativity since 2010, is the only scientific conference that singularly focuses on all aspects of computational creativity. Computational creativity is the art, science, philosophy and engineering of computational systems which, by taking on particular responsibilities, exhibit behaviors that unbiased observers would deem to be creative. As a field of research, this area is thriving, with progress in formalizing what it means for software to be creative, along with many exciting and valuable applications of creative software in the sciences, arts, literature, gaming and elsewhere.

The live stream/virtual conference, which begins on Monday, September 7th, will include more than 40 paper presentations, 30 posters and demos, and will feature two invited keynote speakers:** Emilia Gómez, (Joint Research Centre, European Commission and Music Technology Group, Universitat Pompeu Fabra)** and Simon Lucas (Queen Mary University of London). Additional program items include:

  • Workshops: Casual Creators, Future of Co-Creative Systems, Knowledge-Based Systems in Computational Design;
  • Hands-on Workshop Introduction to Generative Drawing with pencils, paper, C++ and openFrameworks;
  • Tutorials: A Deep Dive into Latent Space: Image Generation and Manipulation with StyleGAN2, Building Generative Art Tools and Quantum Algorithms for Artistic Experiences;
  • Doctoral Consortium;
  • Digital Sound Art Event.

ICCC’20 content, including all live streams, presentations and lecture videos, will be available for viewing on underline.io, along with slides, demos, and tutorials. With attendees joining the conference from around the globe and in different time zones, Underline’s platform maximizes both the scholarship, interactivity and networking opportunities for ICCC’20.

Underline is the world’s first virtual conference platform and digital repository for events in academia, science, medicine and other professional fields. Underline’s online video platform is custom-built for scientific and academic events, and their Emmy Award-winning production team is aggregating and hosting conference content, allowing presenters to reach new global audiences while also giving meeting attendees the ability to watch or re-watch any content during and after conferences.

Through a wide range of virtual, live streaming, interactivity and networking options for events, Underline answers the challenges associated with Covid-19, helping organizations deliver important content, research and presentations from conferences to their attendees and members. Underline’s mission is to digitize scientific knowledge through video, making it globally accessible and useful by enriching and preserving conference content. Researchers can cite lectures, share content, search technical papers, connect with speakers and start collaborations.

“We are excited to host this important meeting on our site for the first time and look forward to helping ICCC’20 reach a large global audience,” said Alex Lazinica, CEO of Underline Science. “The intersection of art and science that ICCC explores is unique, and we are proud to give researchers around the world access to this content.”
