Underline Science will produce and host the virtual content for the Association For The Advancement Of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) Conference on Human Computation and Crowdsourcing (HCOMP) from Monday, October 26 to Wednesday, October 28, on Underline Science (underline.io), the world’s first live streaming and digital library platform for cutting-edge conference lectures, research and discussions.

AAAI HCOMP partnered with Underline after the HCOMP organizing committee and AAAI determined the in-person meeting originally scheduled to take place in the Netherlands would not be possible due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

HCOMP 2020 will feature a full program, with keynote speakers, sessions, workshops and many special activities in partnership with co-host, The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. HCOMP Local Chairs Johan Oomen and Rasa Bocyte lead teams that will take attendees on a virtual visit to the Netherlands, provide virtual museum tours to explore gems of Dutch culture, and build interactive social events in collaboration with cultural organizations around the Netherlands.

The live stream/virtual conference, which begins on Monday, October 26th, will include keynote presentations by artist Anna Ridler, Chris Welty (Google Research), Julia Noordegraaf (University of Amsterdam), and Mounia Lalmas (Spotify and University College, London). “HCOMP shifting to an online event presents an exciting creative challenge for us to bring the Dutch culture and social experience of a conference virtually to participants across the globe,” said Eppo van Nispen tot Sevenaer, the CEO of the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Underline and use their platform as a way to bring together, inspire and nourish the HCOMP community.”

AAAI HCOMP is the premier venue for the latest research findings on crowdsourcing and human computation. While artificial intelligence (AI) and human-computer interaction (HCI) represent traditional mainstays of the conference, this field is unique in the diversity of disciplines it draws upon, and contributes to, ranging from human-centered qualitative studies and HCI design, to computer science and artificial intelligence, economics and the social sciences, policy and ethics. HCOMP promotes the exchange of scientific advances in human computation and crowdsourcing not only among researchers, but also engineers and practitioners, to encourage dialogue across disciplines and communities of practice.

“HCOMP is the home of the human computation and crowdsourcing community,” said Elena Simperl, HCOMP General Co-chair and professor of computer science at King’s College, London. “It’s the main annual venue to present our latest work into frameworks, methods and tools that bring together people and machine intelligence to achieve better results. It is therefore very fitting that at its 8th edition we partner with Underline to showcase how digital platforms and human creativity can create a great community experience.”

HCOMP 2020 content, including all live streams, presentations, workshops and lecture videos, will be available for viewing on underline.io. With attendees joining the conference from around the globe and in different time zones, Underline’s platform maximizes the scholarship, interactivity and networking opportunities for HCOMP.

“We are honored to host this important and respected meeting on our site for the first time and look forward to helping the exceptional HCOMP presenters reach a global audience,” said Alex Lazinica, CEO of Underline Science. “As a former robotics scientist, I know how critically important conferences are to learn about the latest breakthroughs and research. By giving researchers around the world access to this content, we are working toward our goal of advancing an open and connected world.”
